Warm Weather Wines

With another week of crazy temperatures on the cards if you’re not turning to an ice cold beer, which wines should you choose to match with the heatwave?

Whites Wines

Think light and dry, pinot grigio and sauvignon blanc spring to mind straightaway.

However, as this type of weather is not the norm in the UK, why not sip a wine that’s different from your every day ‘go to’ favourite.

Try Albarino from Spain or Vinho Verde from Portugal. Albarino has thirst quenching notes of lemon and grapefruit, while Vinho Verde tastes of melon, lime and grapefruit.

Finally, Gruner Veltiner is worth a go! Notes of lime and crisp green apple make this a fresh wine perfect to turn to in the heat of a late afternoon.

Vermentino is very good when a heat haze is on the horizon. This wine hails from Sardinia and Tuscany, enjoy flavours of lime, mango and refreshing grapefruit pith on the finish.

Worry not red wine drinkers, there are reds out there that can be chilled. Go for lightweight wines like Pinot Noir and Gamay, (the grape used to make Beaujolais). In summer most reds can be popped in the fridge for half an hour, as once outside and in a glass,  they warm up very quickly.

…and finally Fizz

Stay away from vintage champagne! Cava, prosecco and extra brut champagnes are the way forward. For red wine drinkers sparkling shiraz is fantastic with BBQs.

When sipping white wines and fizz make sure they are very, very cold and fill the glass half full so you can refill with another super cold serving.

Drink plenty of water too… Cheers!
