You’ve wrapped all the presents – Kirsty Allsop has nothing on your neatly folded edges and contrasting ribbon – and they are staring back at you from underneath your sumptuously decorated real Christmas tree. You have written all your cards – with the obligatory jolly family update letter enclosed and you managed to send them in plenty of time, using second class stamps. Your Christmas pudding has been ‘maturing’ since the height of summer and your children can’t wait to recite their perfect rendition of ‘Away in a Manger’.
Of course I’m kidding. This isn’t a Disney movie; this is real life. You can’t detach the kids from their electronic devices and they definitely don’t want to stand next to any of their family, in the cold, to sing Christmas carols. You have already emailed your nearest and dearest to email to announce you will donate to charity instead of sending Christmas cards.
Of course top of your list is world peace and global harmony; but in reality, it would just be great if you can get the children to tidy their rooms so that you can get the presents wrapped and, fingers crossed, you did order a turkey with the Ocado delivery that will be arriving any minute.
This Christmas, why not treat yourself to a little gift? How about a bottle of Charles Ellner Grande Réserve Champagne? A real winter treat; full bodied and bursting with the smell and taste of caramelized pastry and baked apples. A cheese board and a flute or two of this champagne may well turn Christmas Eve into ‘Ding Dong Merrily on High’.
