Champagne Salmon Rosé

Out of stock

Very limited volume – only one bottle per customer.

This Rosé is a little unusual because it’s made from 100% pinot meunier. This grape is probably the least famous of the champagne grapes, however, it is well known to insiders for its fruity and fresh characteristics. When you pop the cork expect wonderful aromas of strawberries, raspberries, redcurrants, lemon and even a twist of coriander and a whiff of rose!

The fruitiness continues on the palate with a delicious dollop of smooth creaminess too. As we said, pinot meunier is also celebrated for its freshness and there is a very pleasant citrus kick on the end of this champagne. We think you’ll like it….a lot!

Bottle size 750ml.

The Salmon family has been growing grapes for many generations. Michel started producing champagne in 1958 and his son Oliver was born in the same year.  Michel worked with the cooperative in Chaumuzy initially, slowly expanding his vineyard, while using their press. Oliver joined the family firm and in 1983 Champagne Salmon bought their own press and became independent winemakers, this year was also significant as Oliver’s son Alexandre was born. Alexandre, Oliver’s son joined the business in 2003 and today he and his father are co-owners.

The year 2014 saw the arrival of new tanks (and also the birth of Alexandre’s first son!) and the collection of pinot meunier became available. With every new change in the business a new generation arrives!

Grapes and wine-making are not the family’s only passion. Hot air ballooning is a huhe love of theirs. Oliver has been a pilot since 1994 and Alexandre and his sister have been pilots since 2009. The hot air balloon is the emblem of the house (the first logo was designed by Alexandre’s mother and modernised by Alexandre). It is always somewhere on their bottles.

Over the years the family has developed a strong expertise in pinot meunier, so instead of “hiding it” by blending with chardonnay and pinot noir, they choose to create cuvées of pure pinot meunier. Today Champagne Salmon has a complete collection of pinot meunier champagnes and may well be the only winery in Champagne offering a complete range.

Champagne Salmon is all about family: Catherine (Oliver’s wife) and Romain (Oliver’s son in law) are both working to develop the business. Today, Alex (Oliver’s son) has joined the business too. Michel still welcomes customers who stop by.
