Patritti describe themselves as ‘Urban Adelaide’s quiet achievers’. They are the last, fully operational, 100% family owned winery in the suburbs. They have coveted red five star winery status by the international wine icon James Halliday and  maintain this ranking by receiving over 90 points for multiple wines, every year.

Their history dates back to an Italian immigrant Giovanni Patritti who arrived in Australia in 1926 and today Patritti produce many different wine styles from a wide range of grape varieties. For the last ten years they have focused on premium wines and adopted ‘new’ and rare grape varieties to add further depth and diversity to their range. Giovanni’s grandson James Mugnall and his fellow oenology classmate Ben Heide have been the winemakers since 2006.

Made by Italian wine producers who upped sticks and moved to Australia, here we have a flexible fizz that can be drunk chilled or at room temperature (ideal if you don’t have time to refrigerate). Created from 100 per cent shiraz grapes, it’s made in a very similar way to prosecco in order to retain its fruity flavour profile – you should be able to taste ripe blackcurrant. We’ll be enjoying ours with pepperoni pizza or barbecued ribs.

This brilliantly priced fizzy red is certainly different, even though it is made in a similar way to Prosecco to maintain the pure fruit flavours. Made from 100% Shiraz, and at 13.5%, this fizz certainly packs a punch. The Sparkling Shiraz is perfect if you want something different for your romantic night (or simply don’t have time to chill some wine). Expect strong blackcurrant and blackberry flavours as you drink this wonderfully distinct fizz.
