Get Your Beak in to … Especial Pinot Noir Brut Nature

When we taste at The Fizz Company, after popping the cork, the first thing we do is ‘get our beaks in’ ie take a good long sniff to see what amazing aromas our noses can detect.

This August, we have ‘beaked’ and ‘sipped’- on your behalf, three different bottles.  Here, we share our experience of the ‘Especial Pinot Noir Brut Nature’ – a premium cava from our lovely producers in Spain, from their vineyard ‘1+1=3’.

On the ‘beak’ front, remember how a punnet of sun warmed, freshly picked strawberries and raspberries smell?  Then add a handful of blackberries and blueberries, warmed by the late summer sun.


For those of you who watched children’s tv in the 70’s, you might remember the cartoon characters ‘Roobarb and Custard’ or perhaps you were simply a fan of those roof of the mouth scraping rhubarb and custard hard boiled sweets?  We found that, when sipped, we agreed on the fruit tartness of rhubarb and custard without the sweetness.


For the Miss Marple’s and The Poirot’s out there, there are two vital pieces of information that may be of some interest:

  1. The ‘Brut Nature’ term means there is no added sugar, so a plus if you’re keeping an eye on all things sugary in your diet and if you like your fizz on the dry side.
  2. This is made from 100% Pinot Noir grapes – one of the grapes used to make champagne, (not traditionally cava).

And for those of you wondering where the unusual name of the winery ‘1+1=3’ comes from… The two owners, brothers-in-law – both called Josep –decided that their joint expertise and wine making experience, was more than just 2!
