Get Your Beak in to … Charmant Rosé Premier Cru Champagne

When we taste, after popping the cork, the first thing we do is ‘get our beak in’ ie take a good long sniff to see what amazing aromas our noses can detect.

This June, we have ‘beaked’ and ‘sipped’- on your behalf, of course – four different bottles. The second one this month is our Charmant Rosé, Premier Cru Champagne.

Our eager beaks picked up a fusion of all summer flavours – pink bon bons and licks of redcurrants and blackcurrants.

On sipping, it was back into the orchard again with red apple peel flavours and then off to the patisserie for a naughty slice of red fruit mille feuille and a bowl of freshly picked cherries. Delicious!


For you information thirsty drinkers out there; our fizz fact last time was ‘there are 41 Champagne villages (out of a total of 319) which are Premier Cru’. This time… what is Premier Cru? Well. Back in 1910 and 1911 there were riots in Champagne over pricing. The Cru system was created to stop the riots and set fair grape prices based on the perceived quality of the grapes in certain villages. Grand Cru is the highest level, Premier Cru next and then Village Cru level.
