When we taste, after popping the cork, the first thing we do is ‘get our beaks in’ ie take a good long sniff to see what amazing aromas our noses can detect.
This September, we have ‘beaked’ and ‘sipped’- on your behalf, three different bottles. Making the most of the early Autumn sunshine, we wanted to share a really refreshing little number with you; made by a really small family producer in the Champagne region – Thierry Triolet. This month we feature his Réserve Blanc de Bancs
On the ‘beak’ front, the aroma descriptors came flying across our office desks … lemon confit, nut, brioche and rich butter pastry. At this point, we were expecting to sip a champagne that may be rich and heavy.
Before we get down to ‘sipping’ – for those of you interested in the term ‘blanc de blancs’ – translated literally this means ‘white of whites’. Hence this champagne has been made using 100% white grapes, chardonnay grapes in particular, because it is the white grape of the Champagne region.
Now back to the sipping bit … all the richness we picked up with our beaks then turned into a delicately refreshing little sipper on the lips! Further layers of flavour unraveled, in the form of a lemon meringue pie. No sweetness here though – just the combination of the creamy and zesty lemon, light hints of buttery pastry and licks of toasty meringue peaks!
If you order this bottle with us, please share your ‘get your beak in’ and ‘swig, sip and slurp’ experiences with us.
Bought to you by the Fizz Company team. Cheers!
