We have been focusing on crémant here at Fizz HQ. In this blog, we share our review of a sparkling Cremant de Limoux from France – the Delmas ‘Passion’.
On the beak front, (when you have a good old sniff) think orchards and meadows: white peach, white flowers and honey. Followed by a subtle layer of redcurrant and an indulgent whiff of toffee apple. Sounds perfect for the beginning of Autumn, don’t you think?
On the sipping front, the fruitiness continues and for those of you who enjoy a dry sparkling number, the dosage is only 6. This means you can enjoy all the full-bodied layers of stone fruit with a lovely clean finish.
The Delmas story began almost a hundred years ago when Joseph & Gabrielle Delmas bought 3 hectares of vines. Bernard and Marlène are today’s owners and have made sacrifices to ensure it has remained in the family. Marlène went from flowers to fizz; selling the florist shop she owned, to dedicate herself entirely to Domaine Delmas while Bernard an aspiring chef, turned down a job at the French Embassy in the States.
Over the years Bernard has acquired the best plots in Antugnac and today owns 32 hectares of vines planted with the four Limoux grape varieties. The vineyard is located in the highest and coolest part of the Limoux appellation: the Haute Vallée terroir. This area is referred to by some wine critics as ‘Little Burgundy’.
Grape wise, this bottle is filled to the brim with Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Pinot Noir and Mauzac. For those of you looking for brownie points, it is also organic and for those of you who love your ‘traditional method’ (same as champagne) then this ticks that box too.
If you order this bottle with us, please share your ‘get your beak in’ and ‘swig, sip and slurp’ experiences with us.
Bought to you by the Fizz Company team. Cheers!
