Get Your Beak in to … Janisson et Fils Blanc de Noirs Grand Cru Champagne

When we taste, after popping the cork, the first thing we do is ‘get our beaks in’ ie take a good long sniff to see what amazing aromas our noses can detect.

Here is our feedback on Janisson et Fils Blanc de Noirs Grand Cru Champagne.

On the ‘beak’ front, we were hit with a veritable feast – a blast of red and black berries, piled high on to a buttery tart base.  Yes indeed; a rich and decadent beak!

Before we move on to the ‘sipping’ we thought we would mention the terms ‘Grand Cru’ and Blanc de Noirs’.  When you see the term ‘Grand Cru’ on a champagne label you can be assured that the grapes have been picked from one of only 17 Grand Cru rated villages.  There are 318 villages in total, all rated for their grape prices; with 44 Premier Cru and 257 Cru.  So you can generally expect to pay a little bit more for a Grand Cru Champagne.

The term ‘Blanc de Noirs’, translated, means ‘white from black’ – in this particular case, the champagne is clear but it is made from 100% Pinot Noir grapes.  This also gives you a clue to the taste – you can expect more body and fruit from ‘Blanc de Noirs’ champagne.

Back to the sipping bit … expect another slice of that berry fruit tart and enjoy hints of nuttiness and the richness of crème patisserie.
