Once Upon a Time, we stumbled upon a tall, thin flute and an unopened bottle of sparkling wine. After checking for witches and frogs, we popped the cork, and stuck our ‘beak in’ for a good long sniff and then a sip.
This September, we have toiled away in an enchanted forest, where we ‘beaked’ and ‘sipped’ on your behalf, two different bottles. Here, we share our review of a sparkling from Alsace – the ‘Comte de Grimm Cremant d’Alsace’.
On the beak front, this was an instant hit – a whoosh of citrus and subtle nuttiness. From the first mouth-watering chapter, we could tell this was a real page-turner. All very ‘Snow White’… so far.
Sipping this lovely Alsace sparkling was not unlike the effect of a sorbet, in between courses, at a very posh castle! A complete and utter mouth cleanser; with a lemon sherbet kick and a crisp green apple lick. A very dry and happy ending, with bags of ‘untainted’ fruit.
PS – This sparkling wine from Alsace is made by connoisseur wine-maker Alexandre Penet – acclaimed for his elegant wine making style – low dosage. His wife, Martine Penet-Grimm comes from Barr, in the heart of the Alsace wine region and this wine is made by ‘traditional method’ ie the same way as champagne.
PPS – the term ‘Blanc de Blancs’ on the front label means it is made with 100% white grapes, this particular potion contains, 80% Pinot Blanc and 20% Pinot Auxerrois.
So if you want to have your fairy tale and drink it, then look no further.
If you order this bottle with us, please share your ‘get your beak in’ and ‘swig, sip and slurp’ experiences with us.
