When we taste, after popping the cork, the first thing we do is ‘get our beaks in’ ie take a good long sniff to see what amazing aromas our noses can detect.
This January, we have ‘beaked’ and ‘sipped’ – on your behalf, and this is our feedback on the sparkling Sauvignon Blanc by Gardo & Morris. Yes, we hear you … we’re excited too!
On the ‘beak’ please welcome a veritable cast of people and places: Roald Dahl, Guangdong, Kimball Chase Atwood and the Vale of Evesham. What does all this mean? Well, thank you for asking … this veritable fruit salad of a feast includes the aroma of peaches (yup; big nod to the wonderful Roald); lychees (originating from a tropical tree native to the Guangdong and Fujian provinces in China); the pink grapefruit, which was first discovered on the Atwood Grapefruit Grove in 1906 and last but not least, the Vale of Evesham where an annual ‘Asparagus Run’ takes place every year, modelled on the Beaujolais Run. Phew.
Of course we hope this New Zealand sparkling Sauvignon Blanc (SB) will appeal to the thousands of SB drinkers, as it is probably the UK’s favourite wine. It is a hugely popular style of grape – crisp, aromatic and fresh; you know what to expect and the whoosh of the first ‘beak-in’ generally makes you smile. If you were to associate a colour with this grape we would like to think it would be ‘green’.
Back to the sipping bit … and everything you enjoyed on the beak; pink grapefruit, lychees, peaches and asparagus is evident in the mouth along with a zingy long finish. If you love your sauvignon blanc, this version, in a flute, will not disappoint.
If you order this bottle with us, please share your ‘get your beak in’ and ‘swig, sip and slurp’ experiences with us.
Bought to you by the Fizz Company team. Cheers!
