Get Your Beak in to … Forget-Chemin Carte Blanche

When we taste, after popping the cork, the first thing we do is ‘get our beaks in’ ie take a good long sniff to see what amazing aromas our noses can detect.

This October, we have ‘beaked’ and ‘sipped’- on your behalf, three different bottles and here is our feedback on the Forget-Chemin Carte Blanche Champagne.


On the ‘beak’ front, think ‘Maria Ann Smith’. You know, the Australian women who, back in 1868, by chance, cultivated the first ‘Granny Smith apple. Described as: ‘having the appearances of a cooking apple, they were not tart but instead were sweet and crisp to eat.’ Due to their long shelf life, and some ambitious fruit merchants, by the end of the First World War, Granny Smiths were being exported in huge quantities.


So what else can you expect on the beak? At Fizz Company HQ, it was a most enjoyable two-aroma show; the Granny Smith apple and freshly cut lemon slices.


Before we move on to the ‘sipping’ we thought we would mention the ‘award’ word because this particular champagne has won two silver medals recently. If you have never heard of a particular producer – and we work with lots of small family producers – then an award (or two) should give you a reassuring hug regarding the quality a champagne, rather than us just telling you how fabulous it is.


Back to the sipping bit … and the Granny Smiths apple and lemon on the beak, transform into apple bon bons with delicate hints of breadiness & yeastiness, giving it a long toasty finish. Utterly easy to like.
