Get Your Beak in to … A. Bergère Selection Champagne

When we taste, after popping the cork, the first thing we do is ‘get our beaks in’ ie take a good long sniff to see what amazing aromas our noses can detect.

This October, we have ‘beaked’ and ‘sipped’- on your behalf, three different bottles and this is our feedback on the very marvellous, silver medal winning, A BergèreSelection’ Champagne.

On the ‘beak’ front, think Squirrels.  Yup squirrels!  We’re not necessarily talking red or grey, but what we are talking about is nuts. The first whoosh up your nose is packed full of nutty aromas. Lovely. So what else can you expect on the beak?  At Fizz Company HQ, we also enjoyed beaking on butter, cream and candied fruit cake.

Before we move on to the ‘sipping’ we thought it would be an opportune moment to talk about ‘balance’.  This champagne is made from a blend of 50% Chardonnay grapes and 50% Pinot Noir grapes. Chardonnay grapes can impart lots of lovely buttery and nutty notes as well as zest and zing and the Pinot Noir grapes can provide a fruity richness. In the case of this champagne, all elements mingle together really well to produce what we refer to as a ‘well balanced’ fizz. If a wine is unbalanced one of the elements in the wine be it acidity, sweetness, alcohol level, intensity of fruit etc will dominate and the other elements will be dulled down.

Back to the sipping bit … and in a lovely contrast to the richness on the beak, it was all about the lemon, sherbet and sheer zestiness in the mouth –  lip smackingly delicious!
