Four February Fizz Tasters share their views

This month we sent out six different bottles of champagne and sparkling wine to be scrutinised by Fizz Company Tasters. Up to now the four ladies have reported back, we’re just waiting to hear what the chaps says about their fizz.

Carol Cooper and a a friend sampled Vignarosa Brut Prosecco and gave it a 5 star rating:

Delightful, subtly fruity aroma and taste. Very smooth to drink and, in my eyes, very good value for money. Would be lovely to share on a summer afternoon and will certainly consider buying for such an occasion.

Eleanor Freeman gave us her opinions and 5 stars on Crémant de Bourgogne -Domaine de la Croix Saint-Jacques

A delicious light taste -hints of pear and apple. Perfect for summer nights in the garden. Crisp and no after taste just pure delight. This is a winner .

(Cremant is made in the same way as champagne in Burgundy (the region next door) with chardonnay grapes. It’s a great alternative to champagne and often a bit lighter)

Liz’s lovely flowers with the Masia Bou

Liz Bowman sampled Spain’s most famous sparkling wine, cava. This one is called Masia Bou, Liz awarded it 3 stars and concluded:

Though we had it with lunch, and it was rich enough (despite its low alcohol of 11.5%) to work with our mushroom risotto, this Masia Bou Cava would be drinkable on its own. The first thing that struck me, and the last, was the attractively fine stream of bubbles in the glass, creating a persistent but gentle mousse on the palate à la Champagne. The next was the rounded mouth-feel, presumably coming from being aged on lees. The overall impression is of apples – some ripe pear fruit (as opposed to pear-drops), but mainly soft rich apples, like real cloudy apple juice, with a long dry orchard fruit finish. Cool simple front label & silver logos on black capsule would work well for parties and celebrations alike.

Finally Nicola Callaghan tasted  pink champagne, Triolet Rosé and gave it the thumbs up and 5 stars:

A lovely, crisp, pretty pink fizz with plentiful fine bubbles. Dry with a light cherry finish. Perfect on its own or match with a Chinese.
