The Fizz Company Team – Festive Favourites

As a family run, tightly knit Fizz Team, we appreciate how lucky we are to spend our working life sourcing, sampling and spreading the love for our small producer range of sparkling wines. Because we live and breathe fizz, we wanted to take the opportunity to share our ‘Festive Favourites’ with you.

B – General Manager

The champagne I always get on Christmas Day to share with my family is the Magnum of Charles Ellner Grande Reserve.  For two reasons:  firstly, you collect a great number of ‘kudos points’ by rocking up with a magnum in tow.  Secondly, since I started working here, nearly six years ago, this was one of my first favourites and it still has a special place in my heart / flute!  It is award winning, partially aged in oak, rich and full-bodied.  For me, this embodies the glamorous and elegant side of entertaining at Christmas time.  Cheers!

I haven’t tasted them all yet, but so far I would definitely say my favourite is the 1+1=3 Pinot Noir, Brut Nature.  I would probably choose this to have before a meal when the occasion was perhaps a little less mundane than the average Saturday night! It would be for when I feel the occasion does not warrant champagne but it does warrant something not far off, which does in fact taste almost like champagne!

Helen – Website and Social Media Manager

I really struggle to put a stake in the ground and say which is actually my favourite fizz as it depends on my mood, the occasion and the time of day! I love very dry fizz before a meal to whet my appetite and I like a light but toasty champagne of a morning! However, the champagne that I go back to time and time again with great fondness is our G.Tribaut Rosé, it has depth of flavor yet is light with delicate fruit flavours and a smooth creaminess. A bit like a big bowl of raspberries and cream and it’s great whatever time you choose it as your tipple!

I love the Ellner vintage champagne at Christmas. My dad and I love fino sherry, to the point we’ve all been on a pilgrimage to Jerez to the sherry bodegas, and the Ellner vintage reminds me of fino, but decadently sparkling. It’s the perfect end to a Christmas meal with the cheeses! (We usually have a cheeky sherry when opening presents at 9am, so we start and finish with those lovely intense and aged styles!)

I have three young children so there is always something going on in our house and the opportunity to get out for some fun and seaside air at Whitby, is welcome by all of us.  A firm family favourite is fish and chips out of the paper for all of us and mum and dad would share a bottle of our 1+1=3 Cava Brut Nature Pinot Noir.  A perfect food and fizz match.

Teresa – Sales & Marketing Director

My absolute favourite champagne has to be the Janisson Rosé … mouthwateringly delicious!  My favourite time to drink it would be in the kitchen on Christmas Day, surrounded by family, while the turkey sizzles away in the oven. I would pair this with laughter, chatter and canapés.

Tony – The Owner

I have two favourite fizzes: first fizz – a proper treat: the A.Bergère Champagne magnum 2002 vintage – the kind of champagne you almost do not want to drink because the nose is so interesting, intriguing and complex.  However, the taste is equally as amazing. Bosses prerogative, I will be selecting this as one of the bottles for the staff party in December to go with our canapés, the fact it is also a magnum adds to the drama. Second fizz: Jean Paul Morel Carte Noir Champagne. Jean Paul is a genius wine maker and his Carte Noir is, for me, the flagship of his achievements. Aged for 4 years, and using his immovable blend of 70% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay, he extracts every last ounce of balance out of his grapes – which he nurtures like long lost family. His champagnes dance around your senses like a virtuoso pianist hitting every right note of balance, deep red fruit, light citrus and toasted nuts, lingering to crisp fresh acidity. I will be having this on Christmas morning with smoked salmon blinis and cream cheese with a soft squeeze of lemon and turn of black pepper … obviously if Helen lets me. (Helen-‘possibly!)
