Exton park Pinot Meunier Rosé

When we taste, after popping the cork, the first thing we do is ‘get our beaks in’ ie take a good long sniff to see what amazing aromas our noses can detect.

This March, we have ‘beaked’ and ‘sipped’- on your behalf, and this is our feedback on one of our English sparklers – Exton Park Pinot Meunier Rosé.

Before you even contemplate the ‘beak’ just consider the colour of this rosé. When we chat with customers about rosé, the vast majority say “the paler the better” … so how about this for pale? This shade is referred to as ‘salmon’ and is one of many different shades of rosé.

On the ‘beak’ front, let us turn to a well respected British chef and one of her classic recipes … Delia Smith and Summer Pudding. Imagine breathing in the deeply scented fruits that form the core of this quintessentially English dish – racy redcurrants, plump blackcurrants and raspberries.

If you are wondering why English sparkling can be just as expensive as Champagne it is because it is made in the same way, ie ‘the traditional method.’ It just isn’t called Champagne because it is not made in the French region of Champagne.

For sipping purposes, please help yourself to the biggest spoon you can find – we believe pudding and greed go hand-in-hand – and imagine plunging your spoon in to the middle of Delia’s summer pudding to the richness of all those lush berry fruits. If you can resist another mouthful and you happen to have a spare bag of sour cherry sweets hanging around, indulge in one or two because this is the best way for us to describe the finish of this English fizz.

A fantastic food match would be mushroom dishes and also asparagus wrapped in bacon works wonderfully well too!
